Having heard the howls of anguish from system 6 users when 7 came in, The huge icons are a pain and more suited to Sesame Street than my desktop,īut at least I was able to eventually find a slider to globally shrink them. I was expecting difficulties, but the level of (visible) change looks to beĪn order of magnitude greater. I've had an intermittent problem for about a month now. I've tried everything I can think of to solve the problem but it still persists. I'm hoping someone on this forum will have some new ideas. G4 933 single processor Quicksilver, 1.5 GB RAM, MOTU PCI-424 audio card installed. Two internal drives and one external firewire drive. OS 9.22 is on one volume of the first internal and OSX 10.3.9 is on another volume of this same internal. A carbon copy clone of my OSX volume is on one volume of my external firewire and a "dragged" copy of OS9 is on another volume of my external firewire. Problem: When I boot into OS 9 I get a totally gray screen. I do 90% of my work in OS 9 so the computer is usually left in OS 9, like it was the first time I powered up and got the gray screen. I tried to boot into my firewire OS 9 volume and got the gray screen.

I tried to boot into my OS 9 install CD (the one that came with the computer). I restarted holding the option key to get the boot selection page.
I booted into my OSX firewire and install CDs. I tried booting into OS 9 with extensions off. I unplugged everything and reset the PMU switch. I removed the PCI card and the battery and hit the power button to discharge and left sitting overnight. I ran Disk Utility from the OSX install CD. I rebuilt all directories with Diskwarrior version 3.0.3. While in OSX I could start Classic mode and run apps in my OS9 volume, so my OS 9 System folder must be OK. Since OSX always works perfectly it would seem this is some type of software problem.
